Yes and always will. The dispatcher had to call our house phone @ 2 AM this morning because one of the officers needed to talk with my DH and couldn't get him on his cell. We checked both our cells - showed no service. Tower must have been out.
I have a dear elderly friend whose overbearing son made her get rid of her landline and only have a cell. Hello! She's in her 80s. What is she forgets to charge it and needs it or can't find it (she does that often). I'm 47 and can't remember to plug mine in half the time. I hope her son doesn't come to regret it.
I am far back in the boonies and have a land line...power goes out a lot so my portable doesn't work and my internet is dial up unless I go Hughes net or one of the other satelite thingys...can't afford that right now...I do have a trac phone I carry when I am out on the property...I have been known to fall on my butt now and again...two knee replacements, bad hips and back...stuff like that...not whining, just have to be careful and proactive in my own survival...I can't see my chickens or ducks making a litter and carrying me back to the house...more than likely they would thing I was the Whitman sampler and attempt a taste test...
We still have a land line and lucky us..........dial up
Would love to have high speed internet but not going to shell out the money to Hughes and our telephone company won't put high speed in here and we have been requesting and waiting for five years. They keep putting us on "a list" but they say, "as soon as we have enough people sign up we can get you high speed". I keep telling them we are a rural community, many of us have had these farms in our families for over a hundred years,....no subdivision is going in and no one is moving and making a bundle on property development!! So no new people will be moving in!" Doesn't do any good they still won't give it to us. We are four miles from town ( as the crow flies) and you have to be three miles!!
We still have ours - DH wants to ditch it, but I'm resistant
1. We have limited minutes on the cells and unlimted on the landline - certain friends I can talk to for hours
2. I'm a stay-at-home-mom - so I'm home a lot
3. My cell phone gets hot if I talk for hours
4. Daggone thing needs charging all the stinkin' time!
5. We've had the same phone number for 10 years - I'm attached to it!
