Does anyone still have a landline?

We have a landline that is useless. The only reason we use it is for the DSL. We have local calling that comes with it. Unfortunately, the local calling is only for areas we have never even heard of. We can't call the towns next to use because those are "extended local calling"( 30 plus dollars more a month).
We don't have any other company we can use for internet other than hughes net, so it's the crappy, never heard of phone company for now. If I could drop the phone part of our service I would do so in a heart beat

Cell phone service is another matter entirely. There are only two companies that get a weak signal ( or none at all) out here. My DH has his work cell phone, and I use a non contracted cell phone from the same company. I can take it or leave it with the cell phones too.

omg this is what i have dsl and when ever someone calls on the landline the internet cuts off

You need a filter that connects from the phone jack in the wall. On the other end of that filter is a multi connector that you plug both your phone, and internet cable to. This will stop your internet from being cut off when someone calls in. Your DSL provider should have sent ya one of those in their kit. If they didn't, just call them up, and tell them what's happening

If they seem clueless, you can also get one at a radio shack.

We do. Cell phones don't always work out here in the country. I feel more secure with the land line in case of an emergency.

got it. but it doesnt matter it still does it

That would drive me nuts! Maybe it's broken. Ours doesn't do that thankfully. We just get real annoyed because we will try to call someone the next town over, and instead we get...."Sorry, that area code is not included in your local calling area." It's the same area code! I called our provider to inquire why, and they said it was an extra 30 dollars a month.

We have a land line for only ONE purpose. So i can get on BYC with the DSL service NOT provided by the phone CO.

Yep, I hate my phone CO and the DSL is through "Socket".
Socket tells me that they will eventually provide a
"naked DSL" service which does not require a phone number.

OH, I can not wait to drop my phone number !!

We do cause we have DSL and my dau's bf has the cell in his name as a gift and sometimes it gets turnoff for paymetn. When the con runs out we'll get our own. We don't have cable.
