Have you tried sardines in the live trap? Could be that coon has been "Relocated" before and is no stranger to traps.

Well my friend I have been there done that. Raccoons killed 9 of my hens and 1 big rooster. You said they were stupid. Boy do you have it wrong. I have a video from camera I finall set up and saw the little devil climb the chain link enclosure. I bought a duke dog proof trap. I have caught 8 raccoons in 1 1/2 weeks. They are hard to set so spend the 3$ to get the trap setter. Duck soup. I had a live trap. They are too smart for that. One 22 bullet between the eyes does the trick.Live traps are not catching the coons. I have four baited with canned cat food and they are just going around them.
I want to use a kill trap, but don't want to use something that could hurt a dog or cat. I've found this one that is dog safe, but don't know if a cat would get caught in it.
Does anyone know of this trap or used it? Duke Dog Proof Coon Trap http://www.flemingoutdoors.com/duke-dog-proof-racoon-trap.html
I have no intention of turning the raccoon loose if caught in live trap, only using those in case cat or something I don't want killed would get caught.
The stupid raccoons are even going around the one outside of the building that has all food stored in it: horse feed, goat feed, dry cat food, oats, chicken food, etc. They are walking right past the baited live trap and going into dog door size opening of shed and getting into the chicken food and any other feed. Have most of it in metal garbage cans, but one or two haven't gotten into cans yet.
I lost another hen to raccoon today! I am sick and tired of it. I have done everything I can. Fencing improvement, covers, not letting them have large area to free range, traps for predators, but the carnage is still happening!
