What did you do in the garden today?

Lol my hubby hates the fat on meat, which is mind boggling to me. Our children are about half and half, but my oldest son LOVES crispy skin or a pan of fat... Which completely grosses out hubby.
I'm the only person in my family that will eat the fat from meats. If I fry bacon I can stand at the stove and sop up the grease with wheat bread.

I was taught to do that as a kid, but not with baccon, that stuff is gold. You strain it off and freeze it in the ice cube tray, then you have perfectly portioned bacon flavor bombs to add to whatever you want. 😆 it's good in beans for instance.

Yes, I keep having to go stare at my onion sprouts and pot beans and remind myself that the peppers and tomatoes need to wait until March.

I started my onions back in January.
I couldn't find affordable walking onions seeds, so i havnt started them. I did start many things in a low tunnel last fall though. Then a rat got into my low tunnel and ate all the shallots, chives, mustard greens, beets, spinach, radishes and turnips i was growing. 🥲😡 darn packrat. At least it left my chamomile and strawberry.

I started some then too. I waiting to see if they sprout, old seed, before I start new seeds

I dont blame them, get the chill out of the bones!! That's the worst part of winter to me!
I only have a hoe for tilling, and a neighbor with a tractor who will do it in his own time. 😔 I have to wait. I will probably break down and start seeds indoors next week though, and maybe peas and radishes under a low tunnel. ☺️
I understand that. I also only have hand tools. I will probably take care of 2-3 areas per day, as the body allows.
Everything I plant goes in raised or elevated beds, originally filled with bagged dirt. See image, plus 3 more elevated beds alongside our deck.

I sop up grease also. I also love what is left in the pan or corning ware if baked. I will cook down the liquid until it gets sticky. The gelatin. Lots of flavor.

I found a bread making machine in our closet. Wife's sister gave it to her years ago. Her sister did not use it much. Wife never used it. No manual so I looked it up online. I made a loaf of raisin bread. Best loaf I ever made. I see where it kneads it 18 minutes. I think that made the difference.

I'm rearranging my dining room and cleaning plus putting potty pads down and I am going to put my little greenhouse in there and get some veggies started. I'm hoping that I can get enough herbs to dry for cooking and enough fruits and veggies to can. I'm tired of eating store bought with I don't know what in it or what chemicals were used to make it grow.

I used to use a bread machine. It does make great bread. I could eat half a loaf before I realized it. 😂
