Does anyone use Randall Burkey Organic Layer Feed?

I'm pretty sure that the feed Randall Burkey offers is Countryside Naturals. Just compare the ingredient list.

I buy a 50 lb bag directly from Countryside for basically the same price that Randall Burkey is charging for 25 pounds. But then shipping brings the cost for that bag up to around $50, which is still cheaper than buying it from Randall Burkey when you factor in their usual shipping charges.

Right now Randall Burkey is having a $10 shipping special, so you could order the 50 lb bag plus shipping and it would come out to about the same thing as ordering from Countryside.

It's very good feed, by the way. I highly recommend it.

I just called my feed store and the Layena that I get there is 16%...my gals love it...in fact I unfortunantly had to grab a bag a couple of weeks ago of another brand (let myself get too low and my regular feed store was out of Layena) and I swear they havent eaten but one full feeder of that junky stuff...gonna chuck it cuz they just look at me like "mom...what the heck is this stuff"...at least they get to roam during the day....

at any reputable grain goes through a dual cleaning process before being processed into feed. as far as the fertilizers they use for it most grain crops and hay are ghrown with a 16-6-12 blend. its a great blend for grains. the potash for it comes from a pit (out of the earth) in new mexico where most of the country's potash comes from. phosphorous is also mine. the only thing not coming from a mine is the nitorgen occours in the air you breathso theyhave a process of refining it using the burning (clean burning fuel) of natural gas. so i dont see how "chemical" fertilizers are not natural because it all comes from nature. may not come out of an animals but with an organic sticker attached to it so they can charge you 3 times the amount. ive been in the animal and feed business most of my life minus 4 years i dedicated to my country and ihave picked up more than a few things including organics. most organic products area gimmick meant to push product and triple profit. the cost effectiveness to grow a 1000 acre field of grain with compost over "chemical fertilizer" is astronomical is unreal unless your compost comes from a commercial chicken housewhich it within itself is about the mot unorganic thing by most organic standards. i guarantee that pilgrims pride and tysons are not concerned about chickens eating organic grain they probably eat grain from fields littered with chicken house compost. those birds are fed hormones antibiotics and god knows hat else. id say randall burkeys distributor would probably do the same so you might wanbt to investigate where they get their grain from. otherwise you might be paying a whole lot of money for a label

Sorry, I don't use Randall Burkey feed so I can't help there.
If your feed store carries Purina Layena, have you asked it they could special order Organic Pride for you? It is a Land o Lakes label, but Purina is the actual company owner/manufacturer.

One of the feed stores I used to go to doesn't carry Organic feed, but I asked the owner if they could order some for me. Sure. I avoided the shipping fee and only had to wait for the next shipment from their supplier to come in. I have since found another feed store a little further away that keeps organic chicken feeds in stock. It was $29. for #50 that time.

Now I spend $25 for #50 organic chicken feed. I think that is pretty typical pricing for organic in SoCAL.
