Does anyone use that Phone Jack thingy?

I haven't got it yet, but no software was mentioned. I'm susposed to have 30 days to try it out, and can get my money back if I don't like it. I would probably use instant messaging if I had enough fingers left to type rapidly.

The instant mesaging has a feature that lets you call from your 'puter to someone else's, so you don't have to type. It only requires a microphone to work, and the one I have is a small lapel mike that I got at an office supply place for $7.00. It plugs into the computer with a usb cord that comes with it, and I keep it hanging over the corner of my monitor. No software needed. When you use your instant messenger there is a small phone icon that you click on to call your buddy and it gives you the option of calling their phone (which I think ight have a cost) or calling the computer (free). My friends and I use it all the time.

the magic jack yes I do and it works great. If I need to make a long distance call I plug it into the usb port wait for it to load and then call. I can talk to my dad in Indiana as long as I want to . he just had 4 bypass surgery and a cardoid artery 3 weeks ago. I can't be there so the magic jack helps alot

People talk on phones still? I thought we only used them for texting. LOL

I switched to my cable co.

I did the package deal....cable, phone, computer for $30 each a month.

One thing to really consider is if my power goes out, or something is up with the computer gadget they installed....I don't have phone....hence, I don't have 911 or anything at that moment.

I have had this for 2 years now and have had moments it went down because of storms or glitches...but not terribly so. I did have to go to my neighbors twice to use the phone...and one time when my girls were terribly sick and I had to leave them alone because my husband is in Iraq and I don't have a cell...so I was in a spot.

That I don't like.

But by the time I walked back home they reprogrammed me from their office and I was up and running.

The other thing I don't like is that I have 7 jacks in my house and it knocked out all but 2...BECAUSE apparently this house is old and for some reason...the old addition and the new addition have 2 seperate boxes outside and they can not under law open the main box...VERIZONS...to somehow join them together??

Their response to me was for $75 pay us to run more lines from box to box. Or go pay $75 at Walmart for a cordless phone with multiple phones. Or pay Verizon to come out and open the main box and fix it...and probably $75. I was upset....and I did none of the above.

me,
g

I got my phone jack device today. Even for me it was pretty simple to install and download the needed software. A large problem exists though. When some one calls me they come through loud and clear. The problem is that they can only barely hear me and the words are kind of delayed and broken up, so is pretty much impossible to carry on a conversation. Anybody got any ideas?

I've had a Majic Jack since July. I can call anywhere in the U.S. for free and local people can call me -also free. It is possible to program 911 service. The audio quality, however, is awful. My son has fiddled and tweaked and made it functional, but I won't use it for business calls. You certainly can't beat the price. After the initial year, the price goes down to 19.99 per year.

I don't know anything about phone calls over the internet (VoIP) but are you using a satellite connection? I have heard that satellite connections are much faster to download info than to send it and have a "lag" - not the best for real-time games and maybe phones too.

Best of luck to you.
