Does Bag balm turn black?? Or did it CAUSE frostbite??

Update: chickens are acting normal and the black send to be dried out and faded a bit... So maybe just peat moss, but we'll see. My hen didn't lay an egg today, thoughS, and she had been pretty regular (every other day). So I'm still a bit concerned. She was up on the roost tonight, so maybe all the ruckus with me taking her inside and checking her broke her broodiness, but we'll see with that as well.
