One of my pulleys who is past due to lay has been sitting on the fake plastic eggs in the egg box. She had been turning them and hasn't left them for more than 5 minutes. Should I expect her to lay soon?

    Thank you!

Broody hens don't lay while they're brooding eggs.

Does yours puff up and hiss if you approach her? Does she sit in the nest on the eggs all night long? Those are some of the sure signs of broodiness.

I don't really understand the question.
Well, it does sound like she's broody, and wants to hatch eggs. Usually when a chicken is broody, after she collects a clutch, and then stops laying while she sits on them. Do you mean do you think she should lay because she wants to lay her eggs to hatch?
There are some great treads on breaking broodies, or you can let her hatch eggs...

My question is that since she has been showing signs of being broody does that mean that she should be mature enough and ready to lay her own eggs and hatch them? She hasn't laid eggs before and I thought it strange that she would be trying to raise and hatch eggs when she had never even laid before.

I seriously doubt that 5 minutes in the nest box turning the 'fake' eggs is broody behavior. She is simply getting ready to start laying. JMO

No, she only spends 5 minutes outside then returns to the eggs. She has been sitting on them for an hour straight now.

Quote:Possibly. My goose showed broody behavior about a month before she started laying.
