Does every hen squat before laying?

My 6 month old japanese bantam(75%) x cochin bantam(25%) pullet hasn't started squatting. Winter just started and I don't think she will lay, aI wrong. Do bantam hens also start squatting since my mixed pullet has short legs?

Bantam hens will squat, but not all hens squat for their human caretakers.

Not always. My sebrights and a few other girls squatted this spring (the sebrights still will for me), but before this year, my girls never squatted for me

The hen in my avatar won't squat for anything. Not me and not that upstart 6-month cockerel.

She's a poor layer -- only 3-4 eggs a week -- but that's probably not related.
