Does God care if we are happy?

So which of these definitions apply to orginal question? As I list the positive things versus the negative things in life, as long as the +'s outweigh the -'s, we should be happy?

I only have rice and beans to eat, but at least I'm eating something, so I should be happy?

I don't think God neccessarily "wants" us to be happy - he wants us to do the right things in his sight and we will be rewarded, if not in this life, the next.

K, here's my two cents:
I do believe God wishes us all to be happy. Here's my reasons.
He tells us to be kind to others. If we're kind to them, they are happy.
The Lord is our father, and loves us as such.

And then there's good ol' John 3:16: For God so LOVED the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever beliveth in him SHOULD NOT PERISH ,BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.
Everlasting life would make us happy, right?

And the story of the sparrows... God notices each time a sparrow falls. Are we not more precious to him than the birds?

When you love someone, you want them to be happy.

When you love someone you want them to be happy because of good choices they have made, not bad ones that reap reward.

...I don't understand that. Could you... say that gain... in a different way?
