Does it have to be SO loud?

I'm trying to understand why restaurants have to play loud music, even at lunchtime. There's no party crowd there. I lost half my hearing as an infant and if I think the music is too loud for me, yes--the music is TOO loud.

Well, luckily I was having a problem with allergies last night and was out of my normal allergy medication. I took some benedryl instead which completely knocks me out. I slept like the dead all through the party. Of course I woke up at 4 and then couldn't get back to sleep, but at least that wasn't because of loud music.

My husband saw them carrying the speakers into the yard getting ready for the party. Ya'll have to understand that we live in the kind of neighborhood where if I am in my backyard talking at a normal level, my neighbors can hear me... so who really needs speakers the size of my computer desk for a party around here?

When the teenagers aren't home and the hubbys' at work I will occasionally power up the tunes and sing at the top of my voice. The extremely loud music is a requirement. Without the jacked-up volume someone might actually here my singing. I used to have a great singing voice but after 30 years of smoking my sound is shot. The neighbors are better off with the radio wether they realize it or not.

No alcohol required - just a really good mood and an overwhelming urge to sing

As a side note, but still about too loud music...I hate it when I'm trying to watch something on tv and they just have to have music playing as part of the program, such as a documentary for example. Why the music? It really tends to take away from the seriousness of the subject, at least for me. Same with some news programs. Sometimes they have the music louder than the person talking. What is with that? GRRRRR.

I recently went to an event that touted itself specifically as a "professional networking event." The idea was to meet new people and exchange business cards. The venue was lovely. The music was a guitarist-singer, kind of a Plain White Tees or John Mayer type guy - WITH THE VOLUME SET TO 9. WHAT?!!!!???? You said you were fine?!? Do you want more wine? WHAT????? I could not be so drunk as to be comfortable with that. I had a beer and handed out some biz cards and came on home.

Don't get me started about the kids in the cars with the bass blaring....

My thing with tv is when you are watching a movie and the voices are so low that you have to turn up to volume so high that when it switches to commercial, it scares the britches off you!

Hmmmm....for me it depends. There ARE times during a party or even in private I LIKE the music loud. Other times I cant stand it and need things to be more low key.
