Does it make sense to insulate part of our coop?

Some insulation is beeter than none for sure! I insulated the roof only and for a few reasons. First of all, by insulating the roof you will help prevent the build-up of heat from the sun pounding on the roof all day long. With the 90+ degree weather we're currenlty having it is helping a lot! If the roof was not insulated it would be steamy in there for sure (just like in my attic!)!!

As far as the winter goes, the breads that i chose for our flock are breads that have a long history in our climate (cleveland) and are cold hardy birds so I'm not worried about the cold at all. After all, historical data show the coops in cleveland back inthe early 1900's were not insulated and the birds then did fine in this climate.

I am building my coop now and am seriously considering insulatin gmy walls alone to prevent drafts and subsequent temperature drop from the strong southwesterly winds we get on top of our hill. My coop is elevated and floor insulation would be overkill with deep litter methods. The roof may get a couple of sheets of pink foam board later but it is not my priority as draft prevention is my primary concern.
