Does it need help?

Just wondering if you guys think this one looks like it needs help? Pipped overnight and has a significant sized hole but looking at the membrane… do you think it’s shrink or sticky? Also the other baby chick is pecking at it.

Did your chick hatch?
To me it looks fine, with that large of a hole, usually they will get out o.k. on their own.

It's not unusual for them to take long breaks during hatch, they seem to nap and hatching is exhausting.

It's o.k. for other chicks to peck at the shell too, this seems to motivate the one(s) still hatching.

This one was about three days overdue, I took some shell off and the whole membrane was shrunk to it so I pretty much removed the shell and gently cut the membrane and it basically fell out of the egg. There was no blood from unabsorbed veins, but it did have a little at the rear where the umbilical cord was attached. I left it and the chick basically broke it off itself. There was also a big green glob and slime so I’m pretty sure it had done its business in the shell too. A bit of a curled foot but seems to be straightening out. Fluffing up and very wobbly yet. Stands and then kinds of just slumps down but pretty active. I dipped its beak in sugar water once. The cord dried up too. Still in the incubator. Loud and chirping so despite its wobbliness I’m gonna hope it gets a little more strength after fluffing and overnight in the incubator. Second one I had that struggled out of the shell. All regular size eggs so far have been like that, all 6 little bantams eggs hatched no problem.

This one is a little slow yet. I gave it vitamins, a bath and blow dryed it because it wasn’t fluffing. It was still really wobbly but I put it in the brooder with the others. Still not as peppy as the others yet but seems to have improved and I think it’s since it wasn’t alone. My last chick just hatched but also needed assistance. All of my big eggs were late and shrink wrapped. So far all a success though. So 80% hatch rate with my cheap Amazon incubator. Not perfect but everyone that didn’t quit so far has survived and thrived (kind of) lol.
