I have a gold laced brahma over 2 Ameraucana hens..unintentionally..but hey it happens. I've affectionately nicknamed them Brahmaucanas. The first one I hatched turned out stunningly gorgeous..quite possibly the most beautiful chicken feathering I've ever seen..I'll try to get pics of her..So I decided to hatch more are see if her feathering was a fluke or if they all would come out like her. The next hatch I didn't pay much mind to day old markings. Now they're about 5-6 weeks. With following hatches I noticed upon hatch that some have the oh so adorable bold chipmunk striping and some have a dull mousey brown color with very faint striping. At first I thought it was just from the two breeds crossing and different markings ect. Now with the 5-6 week old group some have a bold chocolate head and others still have the remainder of the chipmunk stripes. I noticed with my black australorp, white rock and buff orpingtons that the pullets and cockerels tail feathering is a dead give away even at a few weeks. Neither of these have any tail feathers yet or any other distinct "here's your sign" sexing traits. Any thoughts? Help..lol
