Leroy Brown is our Alpha male. He was the first to crow and the first to try to mount a hen, both at the ripe old age of nine weeks. We know he's a boy.

Our other buff orp, aka Leroy's Brother Or Sister, we're not so sure about. It looks a lot like Leroy, but is slightly smaller and has a pinker comb. It hasn't crowed yet, but its legs are every bit as thick (if not thicker) than Leroy's. The physical differences between them are not nearly as distinct as they are, say, with the Barred Rocks or RI Reds. In terms of behavior, I haven't seen LBOS go after any of the girls yet, but it did get a little assertive with me one day.

Here they are at 18 weeks - first Leroy Brown, then 2 pics of LBOS. What do you think - pullet or late-bloomer?

Brother. My two boys are both brahmas, same age - 21 weeks. My alpha developed earlier, crowed earlier, started mating the hens earlier. His brother is just now starting to look like a real roo, only crows when the alpha is somewhere else, and only sneaks in a mating attempt when he thinks he can get away with it.

Sounds like my Polish brothers, LOL. So now the lag behind brother, Ugly Eddy, roosts with the youngsters at night, what a sight! Surrogate mom.

Brother, definately. That tail is starting to go up and the neck feathers are looking very roo-ish.
It makes me sad though- they look EXACTLY like Truman and Eisenhower, my BO boys that are now gone.

Just wanted to let you know that you were all right -- Leroy Brown does indeed have a brother. This morning we heard him crow for the first time. It was a pretty pathetic crow, but he's definitely not a girl!
