Does light in coop help chickens lay more eggs?

I have eight chickens and 6 were laying in the fall. This is my first year with my chickens in April it will be a year. As of two weeks ago I would get maybe 2-3 eggs. So I would call that a 50 percent drop in egg production. Two weeks ago I put in a red light. I have also increased there protein intake. Now I have been getting 8 eggs for the past 4 days

Honestly, its past winter solstice, the days are already getting longer, and egg production should be going up naturally on its own. There's really no point for the extra light.
