I'm thinking about ordering from them and as I know a lot of you have ordered from McMurray

, I was wondering if they put extra chicks in the box. If I'm getting 30 or so, would they put in any extras? And do they just put in extra cockerels or do they put in a few additional birds of the breeds you chose (I think I've seen one other hatchery that did that)?

Oh - and I'd probably be ordering for July, if that would make a difference (heat-wise).

Thanks!

you have the option of checking the box that says, "Free Rare Chick".

If you click it, they'll send you a rare roo!

I haven't ordered from them in years, but most hatcheries ship a few extras on larger orders to cover the occassional loss in shipping. We order 100 at a time and most times receive about 103 and unless it "a rare exotic" it has always just been a couple extras of what I ordered. On an order of 30 you "might" get one extra.

Btw, I know I've read on here that some have gotten a pullet, but my "free exotic" was always a cockrel. Always. Maybe I'm just lucky that way?

My recent order of 25 from MM included 27. One free RIR pullet and my free exotic has turned out to be a BO pullet. From what I understand, this is not the norm though.

I got a rare chick from McMurray. A roo. I love him. We ordered 26 last July and got 27. All of them arrived healthy and great. I live in Ga. So it is hot and humid here. Good luck

I have gotten 5 extra Black Australorps in one batch, a Red Star pullet another time and arious other breeds as the free chick, mostly cockerels but not always.
It depends on what they have to get rid of at the time I suppose.

We just ordered 26 chicks from them and received 28. One extra was my free exotic chick, which looks like a buff lace polish. The other extra they threw in is a male white crested black polish. I didn't even realize there was an extra at first until I remembered I only ordered three wcbp.

I received My 25 plus 1 extra BR, I said no to the free rare chick as I did not want a roo . One wasn't doing good when I got them for about an hour and then I couldn't find her because she was running around like the other 20 BRs. This Was Monday, I stayed home yesterday and watched them a lot and everyone seemed fine. when I came home for lunch today she was hardly moving. I tried to get her to drink water and she perked up for a while and then just fell over. I thought with this being the 3rd day I wasn't going to lose any. I hope thats the only one. They are so cute but the stress raising babies I may have to just wait and buy older pullets from other people around me.
