Hi all
I'm brand new to chickens. I just got 4 rhode island red chicks this past week. I don't know how old they are, they were delivered to the local farm store in a big batch. they weigh about 2 ounces and are just starting to stretch their necks and in the last couple days have grown tail feathers (about 1/2 inch worth).
Yesterday I found one chick with her head turned almost upside down. She can't straighten it out. That sounds like the descriptions of wry neck or limber neck or whatever, but she also can't walk. She just flops around. She can't eat or drink on her own. If we dip her beak in water and tip her head back she swallows, but that's it. Mostly she lies around with her eyes closed.
I separated her from the others, who are fine, gave her some vitamin e and selenium (couldn't find pro-vi-sol) this morning, no effect yet. Also a teeny bit of yogurt.
Does this sound like wry neck? Are we prolonging her suffering? Should I just end it? It looks terrible.
Thank you for any advice.
