Does my neighbor count as a pest?

I think complaining about chickens just may be the straw that broke the camels back. They may just say, "No more chickens or any fowl" That way the complaining will stop. I know you originally said you are getting chickens! Let's just not bring up the birds. It may already be a touchy subject with the local law.

Sorry! Where are manners? Yes, welcome to BYC! Kinda busy here and got sidetracked!!!!

No compromise with the AOE!!!!! Fight till the death. The older I get the more frustrated I get with rotten, mean spirited people. I don't let them get away with it anymore. Stand up to them before it's too late and you'll always have them in the back of your mind eating at you.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! I thought about tossing a mosquito tablet in, but don't want to hurt her animals. If you say it is safe....

I REALLY dont want to get into it with the AOE. If I am making too much noise in my garden (like hoeing and cursing) the mother will get on her roof, pretend to sweep leaves off of it, and take pictures of me. She does the same thing when we are working on the house. We even had to put up a block wall to keep her from feeding my dogs. Once she spent a week taking my baby's disposable diapers out of the trash and putting them against our gate, even though they were separately bagged and DEFINATELY not in the recycle.

I know what you are going to say...but to turn her in for being a busy-body (albeit a creepy one) would mean I would have to take pictures of her taking pictures.... And she is older and cuckoo, not dangerous. Her daughters are only being supportive. But I digress....

I will try the tablets and see if that works. Next I will try a bug zapper in that corner of the yard (which will conviently be over the garden

) If that doesn't work, the big guns will come out.

if you cant find mosquito doughnuts (they arre called that as far as i have known) to put in the water "Cutter" brand has little tablets also. You cna safely put them in animals water bowls, ponds (althuough my goldfish don't let mosquitos survive anyhow) , and rain barrels. I'd look into it, they make more thn one kind.

talk to people at petco, the vets, etc to find out the variety that's safe for animals, call the county and find out what klind are safe for wild life. ...

I live in Florida - I know all about vampires - I mean mosquitos - Ive lost a quart or so to them from time to time.

We built bat houses and they really really make a difference - however.....they don't always occupy the houses you build. It has a lot to do with temperature. And you have to build the right type of house for your area. Like Chicken poop - bat poop (guana) is great for the garden and like chickens - they make a LOT of it so you have to think about where you place the houses and what it might land on - Possible soln: a 12-15 foot pole set in concrete near your fence with the offending pond. Bats prefer to be near water and bugs depending on the local breed.

They truly are interesting little creatures and much more effective than the bug zapper - one small little bat eats 1000 mosquitos a day and about 100 live in a small bat house. And it is a myth that they are blind.

We have built bat houses for my daughters Bronze award in Girl Scouts and my son's Webelos service project for his arrow of light - we had 135 other boys helping. They are pretty inexpensive to build and relatively easy.

I think that bats houses and chickens are actually a good idea for everyone willing to give it a go!

I just reread your last post -

It makes me laugh that she is so interested in spying on you. I know it is not funny for you. I would plant some kind of tall cypress or hedge to block her view but I think I might be tempted to build at halloween a scarecrow that is bent over mooning her with two pumpkins in the pants - not that she could even slightly say you are trying to offend her but that probably would not be the best advice.

I thank GOD I live in a very rural area where the most interaction I get from my neighbors is an occasional wave.

I don't care how nice a neighborhood is - she is infringing on your privacy and the going through your trash to remove diapers and to leave them somewhere else might actually be treaspassing. I think I would rather be in a quiet rural area to dealing with the aoe!

I used to work in Naval Intelligence and there was a stalker taking pictures of me leaving my apartment - it was very creepy - So I reported it to the Naval Investigative Service. They thought he might have been a counter intell guy - (About the time they were working on the walker spy ring case. )Turns out he was not stalking me but some other girl and he was a sex offender. Lets just say he isn't able to do that anymore.

First of all, getting the city or county involved won't keep the OP from getting chickens, as all of the cities in the Phoenix metro area allow them, assuming she doesn't have an HoA.

I wouldn't let the fact that the mother is creepy and interfering stop me from making sure that her daughter wasn't breeding mosquitoes. I'd talk to her, offer information on killing them, then I'd kill the county.

Arizona isn't like other parts of the country, where mosquitoes are something you have to live with. Here, they only happen when someone deliberately leaves stagnant water around. And yes, West Nile is a huge issue around here.
