Does my Peacock need a Peahen to live happily?

If you have peahens even in pens the peacock will stay.

Think that may be the case , with Steve's birds.

That is what I was thinking...That is a reason I think I would have better luck free-ranging now because I would have peafowl penned to help anchor the free rangers. Every time I go to see a peafowl breeder I notice that that free-rage peafowl love to stay near the penned peafowl. They perch on the pens, display near the penned peafowl, and some fight through the fence.

yes they will do that even if the penned birds are other like chicken, best peafowl. Crazy peacocks if no peahen they will look for other birds, reason u will see the guineas cross birds

Edit to add....if no other birds on your place, good way to lose a peacock ,is try to free range him.....they will try to find others even if its the the chicken down the road.

I need to tell my friend that has been free ranging about 20 male peacocks for the last 10 yrs (the only birds on his place) that he needs hens or other birds to keep them at home.

Well, thank you everyone. I guess he can stay alone then.
How do you post images or videos here?

Steve ,not saying it can't be done, but a lone peacock in most cases will go looking.

Okay I really do think that is why my first peacock left. Now I feel better about trying free-ranging again! See when I first got peafowl I free ranged my first and only pairg, but I think the male wanted more then just one peahen so he left. He never really liked Ice...Oh well at least he was just an India Blue if he was a white peacock or something else I would have never gotten over him leaving like I have now.
