I'm so glad to hear he's getting a goat friend... he will be so thrilled!
I don't think it matters to Reggie which sex his friend is. If you don't have plans of breeding or milking then I would suggest another wether as his buddy. They are cheaper to buy and don't go through bouts of crying/yelling when they are in heat!!
