Does this look like a workable nest box design?

What a great design, Steven! I'd be willling to bet you could market this if you had the time to dedicate to production. Thanks so much for sharing!

They look great! Very well made and great idea to have the hinged slope.

The only thing I would add for my own convenience is an outside access. If that outside wall to which the nests attach is protected from the weather and is on your path to the coop, I would make a bottom hinged door to grab eggs from the outside. This would be especially handy if I was gathering eggs at night after getting home from work to avoid having bombs dropped on me from the roosts above.

I would have liked to put an access from the outside to get eggs, but the coop is at the property line backed up to a fence and I didn't have that opportunity (I converted an existing wood shed to the chicken coop)...here's the before and after...

It turned out nice and solid and wasn't that hard to construct. I will be making the second set tomorrow. We will see if I get faster with the experience of the first one.

Take care,

That's just lovely! I love your nest boxes: very well thought out. I do hope you allow your pics and designs to be posted here.

Today, I finished and installed the 2nd group of nest boxes. Now it's on to the roosts!! I have been looking at a few different types. One in particular interested me. It was shown on a web site that has a really fancy chicken coop that looks more like a fancy house than a chicken coop (even a fancy one).

I think I will post a separate question for that and see what people think.

Take care,

my uncle made some similar to these but he used the metal roofing tin on top that keeps the hens from roosting on the roof area and his was hinged i believe he outlined the roof in 1x2 and added the tin up there
