does this mean they will start laying soon?

OH NO! My Girls get TONS of vegetables from the garden as well as daily cuttings from my herb garden. ( I think I feel guilty cause I can't let them free range

) Then they get a handful of scratch. Their feed and the folks on this forum said to offer them cat food for extra protein because of all the veggies they get. They peck at it but I would not really say they eat much of it. They don't really eat a whole lot of feed either. A 50 LB bag lasts me a little over a month!

:)Hi
My pullets have been on laying mash for about2 weeks now. They seam to be eating every thing I put in the feeders. The old hens have to fight to get any thing to eat.I have 13 rir and 10 br pullets and 10 rir 2 aust lop hens.

thanks equine...yep things here are well confusing but at least better i think. Its really hard for both of us to let go of 20 years together. For the time being we are giving things some time and we will see what the next few weeks brings. Thanks again for your concern.

My chickens are all good...there is a woman about 30miles from here who is moving state and is going to be giving me 2 ameraucana hens and a roo ( 5months old) and a blue silkie pullet ( 5 months old) tomorrow morning. That will be great. Im a little worried about putting the ameraucana roo in my run with my RIR roo who is also about 4months old. I just feel bad about taking the girls and leaving the roo there on his own. Worst case scenario is that i have to separate them until i find the new roo a better home. This lady is leaving in a couple of days though and is kind of stuck with regards to where to place her birds.

Do your Ancona's fly? Mine fly high and faster than the others. They are so pretty don't ya think?

Yes they are starting to fly. So are the Golden's and Garnet - haven't seen the Buff's yet but they are the biggest hens we have. I think the Ancona's are pretty, do your's have the silver legs?
