Hello Everyone,
I recently gained a new family member. A beautiful rooster from a lady in our neighborhood. She said she had purchased 6 chickens from a distributor who assured her that she was purchasing all hens. Turns out 2 out of the 6 were roosters. She started asking around if anyone wanted a rooster because she could not keep them both and needed to re-home one. We wanted a rooster and we were very disappointed when all six of our chicks turned out to be hens. Initially she offered to trade me one of my hens for one of her roosters. I could never part with any of our girls as they all have a special place in my heart so I declined her offer. About a month later she contacted me again to see if we still wanted a rooster because she had to re-home one as they were getting older and started to do more than a peck & rather than having roosters fighting and becoming aggressive she was urgently trying to re-home one rooster. With great joy and excitement we eagerly said yes and she brought him over the next day. We have been slowly integrating him into our flock of 6hens. We got ours on April 17th and she believed she got hers at the tail end of March early April but could not be anymore specific. When she arrived the rooster he did look a bit taller than our girls so I figured a few weeks difference in age wouldn’t be to big of a deal. When I finally got him settled down & outta the carrier he immediately stopped fussing and flapping & became the most docile chicken I ever met. When he stayed sitting on my lap letting me pet him with out holding his wings down and literally fell asleep on my lap he immediately melted my heart & I started to inspect him thoroughly as far as i could tell he did not have anything that indicated he might be sick. However, his crop/comb has a few black spots and one spot that looks like an injury from a scuffle he no doubt had with the other rooster prior to getting re-homed with me. If anybody has information thoughts advice please advise because if he needs any type of treatment I will immediately go out and get him whatever is suggested (if need be). Thanks everyone I look forward to your responses.

They look like Peck marks to me. I could be wrong. They should come ring without doing anything special. Sounds like he was the recessive roo in his last flock

Recessive roo? You mean the mild mannered non aggressive one? Forgive my ignorance I’m new to chicken terminology lol

I agree, it looks like peck marks. I would leave them alone unless the hens start picking at them.

I *think* @Rakaiachick means Submissive (less dominant) instead of Recessive.
Roosters fight, but sometimes there is one that will become Dominant and the others are Submissive.
