Hello my dears,

Does this young chicken come close to the Jersey Giant? The original mother 7 generations ago was not a Jersey Giant but an unclassified native breed from the Middle East 4,02 kg around 8,8 pound. the young chicks are 4 months old and weigh around 2.2 kg 4,8 pound. Here is the mother and the selected breed from her. What is missing to make more Jersey Giant? Ask for advice. Which cock do you think would be better suited for further breeding?

The black one in the first pic looks the best. Usually jersey giant roosters are very large, around 10-12 pounds and quite tall and just impressive in size. They also have black feet. Since I am thinking you are in the middle east, you probably don't have access to jersey giants. I don't think you can make a jersey giant, but if you selectivity breed birds that are the right shape and color, you can get something similar. Birds that are large in size and mostly black. I see you can a chicken that kind of looks like an aseel, which have a slender frame and tight feathers, don't use these for breeding. You should focus on size first, then color in my opinion. You want a large frame and body like this:

I wish you can buy some, but I don't think eggs can be imported to gaza. You are close with the rooster, just need to work on the hens

@ 25chickens

Yes, it is not possible to have or experience anything beautiful in Gaza. We are there on the ass of the world, closed in a cage, sorry for the choice of words. But I am not delivered to my fate, I dream with the world outside. I'm part of the lucky ones out there. My heart is pumping with hope and joy.

Well, they have yellow skin which is a good start. Jerseys had several breeds in their development, including Langshans if I remember. Plus, Jerseys are slow growers, it takes a lot of time to grow their sizeable frame and then muscle it up. Your birds look good, weight is a bit low for Jerseys but you seem to be heading in a good direction.

Do you have access to Brahmas or Langshans by chance? They would be good additions to help get size up there. The second to last pic looks like there was some gamebird in their heritage. How old is the one in that pic?
