I have a hen who doesn't want to drink from the water container. The water is clean and she didn't use to have a problem. But now I hardly ever see her drink, though she must. I sat out and watched her for 30 mins today and she wouldn't go over to the water. When I'm refreshing the water, I pour the old water on the ground and she drinks like there is no tomorrow. Any ideas about whats going on?

Maybe the water on the floor tastes better? Dirt flavored? Mine run to drink out of mud puddles that are visually yucky, and the water dumped from their dishes....

Maybe it's getting cooler and humidity is up so she really is drinking less often rather than not at all?

My girls won't drink from the proper chook water container either, however, they will quite happily drink from the dogs water bowl. Perhaps it tastes better:D Now I just have a couple of old china bowls out there instead of the old plastic chook water feeder.

Good luck:

Is the waterer made of metal or plastic?

Are you adding any additives into the water?

Is it in the sun? (maybe its getting too warm?)

Try moving it to a different location....
