DOG ALLERGIC TO EVERYTHING-meds making him vomit:( UPDATE 11/5/11

I too have a sick dog at the moment and empathize with you. Not to try to diagnose him on line but when one of my other dogs had pancreatitis he had a very distinctive odor. Does your dog smell odd? Pancreatitis is def an emergency but mine was easily fixed up once in the vet's hands.
eta Re the skin issue, a vet treated my dog with pred and allergy shots for a year , even though his tests were inconclusive, before her boss told me to take him to a dermatologist. Dr McKeever in Mpls is the best! He started the dermatology program at the U. He took one look at him and diagnosed him with canine discoid lupus, which has been controlled ever since with tetracycline and niacinamde 3 times a day. I doubt that is what your dog has but as a specialist the dermatologist wasn't really much more expensive than my regular vet so you may want to consider consulting one if you have one in your area.

I'm so sorry to hear Noah is doing so poorly! I am so sorry.

I have just added a student who has a doberman that is allergic to everything. I'll ask what she does or give her your email so she can talk to you? Would that be OK?

Vet doesn't think it has anything to do with@the food so were doing the allergy testing ...He's getting xrays on his feet/legs now ....deep ear cleaning..nail clipping...(even though I just had them done last time we were here..its free so I don't care) steroid shot to help with pain and everything else until allergy results come back in 3 weeks....

I just found this thread and haven't got thru all of it so sorry if any of this has been offered up previously. I adopted a dog a few years ago with terrible skin problems and constant itching and scratching. I had dealt w/similar issues in a previous dog and knew what the traditional vets were going to offer. I chose to go to a homeopathic vet instead. She put him on Precise dry food and gave him a pretty big dose of the homeopathic remedy Sulfer and sent me home w/a maintance dose. Within 3 mos he was a new dog!! His hair grew in full and luxurious...seriously, and he never itched or scratched anymore! She felt that alot of his skin problems were due to all the meds that had been put into him in a short time....he got all his shots and was neutered so there was anesthesia and antibiotics. Then everytime he got a hotspot they'd give him steroids and allergy/cold meds and if they were bad the vet would put him under to clean them up. She felt he just needed time to get all the toxins out of his system while being support with food that wouldn't contribute to the issues and sulfer is a pretty standard homeopathic skin remedy. I don't know if you have access to a homeopathic vet in your area but some of her approach may help......slow down the meds if possible, it's hard to find a cause when there are so many variables, feed a non-allergenic food and give things time to calm.

I hope you and your pooch get relief soon....it's so hard to see them suffer and to look into their pleading eyes when you can't fix them!!!

UPDATE!!!

allergy testing results are in-not allergic to ANYTHING!!!! had SLIGHT reactions to egg-thats it. So here is where we stand-there were two rare things she didn't think of
( because they were so rare) Seobbrea (sp) primary disorder with the skin making process-creates bacteria and yeast infections OR Vitamin A definciency so severe causes dermatitis-stops him from producing normal skin/coat. I asked about the raw diet and she said to wait until we try the topical high fatty acid stuff AND Ketacore shampoo. It helps wash/scrub away his skin build up. he cannot slough off his normal skin like everything else can and it builds up in heavy thick smelly pieces ( it does!)

He was given Vetalog ( long acting steroid) almost 2 weeks ago to help stop all the itching and such-it has worked wonders. but I told the vet I am not keeping him on steroids for fear of the dangers involved with his immune system.

I have an issue that has popped up though he has gotten aggresive--he has been attacking my chihuahua ( his best loving friend for over 2 years) everyday...We have them seperated until we are all home-we feed them seperately now-to prevent fighting. This dog is going to be the death of me. The vet said the steroid will make him testy and Im hoping that is what it is...Keep praying for him guys and hope this is the solution. In the mean time...The vet and I are coming up with a natural dog food-veggies-starches and such that will help with his skin issues...raw-ish but a little more added to it...we'll see

I am guessing the aggression is from the steroids and will go away once they are out of his system.

I hope you are finally on the right track with his skin issues!
