Hi I have three dogs and I have a small one that is very very scared of fire works and there are gonna be fire works in about a week where I live I was wonder how to keep him calm with the things I have at home what are some good ideas thanks

The only things that have worked for me in the past are crating them, which helped a lot. For my dogs their crates are their 'safe place' and they calm down from just about anything there. In severe cases you may need to consider a prescribed medication from your vet to take the edge off.

Edit: you may want to try this, if the stress is fairly mild it may help, if you have a walmart nearby they may have it, it's pretty widely available: http://www.bachflower.com/rescue-remedy-pet/

Keep them in a room away from doors and windows to the outside. The Fourth of July is a nightmare for shelters and rescues because of how many scared pets (indoors and outdoors) get loose and run away.

You might also try gentle but loud music, crating them and partially covering the crate with a blanket, looking into a “thunder blanket” for dogs, and distracting them with a nice peanut butter Kong. There are homeopathic calming oils and prescriptions for very anxious dogs too.

"thunder shirt" works well. Or. Try a 4inch ace wrap around the chest area. Just snug not tight. It provides a comforting feel. A covered crate will help also, naturally dogs seek sheltered"dens" to feel secure. A radio will only give marginal results, canine hearing will still detect the fireworks even through a rock concert. Same with the OTC calming meds. I have a sennenhund mix that is afraid of everything. I've tried everything I can find. In the end, I've realized that he's just the way he is. I give him a "safe" place to retreat to, and when the commotion stops he returns to normal. Sometimes no matter what we want to happen, we just have to understand that they're going to react in their own way. As long as the behavior isn't harmful or dangerous, there may not be much you can do.

Just be with him, have the tv or radio on and be there for him, I have a dog kennel and the amount of hunting around me is crazy ... just walking around with them really helps , don’t waste your money on oils or weighted shirts , buy a new bone or toy, but I can guess you’ll end up with him on your lap

My old Great Pyrenees (RIP) was terrified of fireworks. She'd hide, quivering, in the bath tub of an interior bathroom. I'd place a large towel over her head and it seemed to help. Best wishes for calming your little one.

Worst for me is they legally sell fireworks immediately next door, and then hold a show as well. Twice a year it's absolute hell. Because it's so close by there's nothing I can really do for the dogs other than to make sure they stay in an area where they can't hurt themselves (so no windows). Usually they tuck up against the garage door because that area of the house has no windows nearby, so it's the most sound insulated.
