My dog, usually an angel around my chickens, had an old corn cob she found and when my Blue Andalusian pullet decided she should be able to have some too, got pined down and bit my little dog! BAD DOG!!!

I now have her in a dark dog crate in my bathroom with soft bedding. I cleaned the wound, about 2'' flap of skin hanging off her neck, with Vetricyn, but I don't know what else I should do? How do i get the flap to stay against the skin? She keeps trying to peck at it, and does not like being in the crate--she is a Blue Andalusian after all! On the bright side, she just ate a couple grapes and seems to not be in too much of shock.

Place a trauma pad or non stick pad on it (trimmed to size) and wrap it with vet wrap! My pullet had a similar problem. I also had to hobble her feet to keep her from picking at it

Thank you! I will do this. Appreciate the photo so much 🙂. May I ask how you hobbled the legs ?

Don't get mad at dogs for doing dog things.

In the future keep your dogs and your chickens separated.

I used vet wrap for that as well. In fact the same hen was injured recently and I had to hobble her as an adult. She’s already doing better!

Be sure to clean 1-2x a day, 2x preferably with fresh bandaging and triple antibiotic ointment without pain reliever. A good daily rinse with vetercyn would be helpful too.

Good luck with your bird and keep us updated!
