Dog attack--2" neck wound on throat of my pullet

I used vet wrap for that as well. In fact the same hen was injured recently and I had to hobble her as an adult. She’s already doing better!

Be sure to clean 1-2x a day, 2x preferably with fresh bandaging and triple antibiotic ointment without pain reliever. A good daily rinse with vetercyn would be helpful too.

Good luck with your bird and keep us updated!View attachment 2234385

And here is my sad and guilty old dog... Has been around chickens for 3 years and has never lifted a nose to them, but god help a chicken that comes between her and a corn cob! 😣 In my dog CloverB's defense, she only pinned Carmen down for a second before stopping, but I think it was her paw that ripped her open. We decided to try and get our pullet Carmen to the vet tomorrow, too. Fingers crossed BYCers!!

Oh good you have a vet that accepts Chickens! 🎉 thats great! They'll probably stitch that flap up and give you some antibiotics and ointment and she'll be on her way! Keep us updated please!
I did finally find a vet who will see chickens, although the last experience I had with her was not great. Hopefully this time the situation will be more straight forward, just as you suggested.

Sweet little Carmen certainly does not like being in a dog crate. Blue Andalusians are notorious for perching in the highest spot possible and they LOVE to FLY. Having her hobbled and crated feels so cruel. Hope the vet sees her tomorrow, that she heals fast and can get back with the flock ASAP!

I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to bring one of her friends into the crate to stay with her:hmm? She's my most social bird, and hates being cooped up... Any thoughts BYCers?

Yes, this would be a good idea. Alternatively, can you put her in a wire dog crate and put her in the coop so she can essentially still be part of the flock? Give her a chunk of 4x4 to sit on as a roost and provide her with the essentials: food, water, grit and oyster shell daily. I think you'll find she'll heal faster. Good luck!

Your chickens wound looks VERY similar to mine in the earlier pictures. She will heal just fine! She will be out with the other birdies in probably 2-3 weeks. They heal incredibly quickly! I also suggest putting some vitamins and electrolytes in her water just for a little boost. She looks like she's handling it well :) poor little chickie.
