Dog attack - chunk of skin torn open

She's doing pretty well. She's more particular now about it being worked on, but it's starting to heal. We've used Blue-Kote on it, which seems to be working well to help keep things clean. I've been a little worried about her being gone from the coop too long, so I've been giving her field trips out there and the other three don't seem to have forgotten who she is. She definitely wants to be out there. As soon as she's out there she just acts like a normal healthy chicken. So I'm sure she'll be fine, just a question of how long things will take to heal up to the point I don't have to think about her. I'll put up some pics as the healing progresses.

I had a hen who had her back torn open down to the muscle. My neighbor told me to put a lime product on it. I sprinkled her back with a blood stop that has lime in it that I use on our horses - put it on thick and put her in isolation. It worked - formed a second skin and in a couple of months she had a healthy feathered back. she also became quite tame in the long run.

She's doing great. Been meaning to track her progress with pics but she's pretty much healed up. New skin is totally grown in and fairly full of feathers. Kind of surprised how fast she healed. We put her back in after five days or so and didn't really do anything after that beyond checking on her. I think the cold weather keeping bugs away and the fact that she could pretty well keep it covered with her wing helped, but either way I've got a new respect for what they can heal up from.

My hen got attacked 5 nights ago.. one hen is gone with feathers over a long trail so I believe a predator bird got in the coop when the rains swelled the wood and a storage area over the roost opened up so . . other hen has a big ear of skin pulled back she is not walking a lot or eating a lot but she does cackle whenever I come near and I have been keeping her clean. the flap seems to have started to dry out. did your chicken survive the dog bite? ? ?
