Dog attack! (Graphic Pictures)

oh gosh that is a bad injury - if it's any consolation, my friends turkey was attacked by a coyote and had a similar but even worse injury and has made a full recovery, even if she is permanently missing a chunk of her torso, it healed over with care and she's back with the flock. pain management and cleaning and lightly up the wound to let it dry and stay clean is so important. put her somewhere calm and dark, she likely will, be in shock. I hope others can chime in.
You said "pain management and cleaning and lightly up the wound?" Can you clarify what you meant to say please? Should I leave the wound open?

oops, I meant lightly covering. I can't speak on it too much as I wasn't there the whole time but my friend cleaned her turkey's wound, and bandaged it up to prevent her from picking at it, but would redress it daily so that it wasn't kept damp I think? I am sorry I don't have more to offer, hopefully someone with firsthand experience can chime in. I just know poor turkey looked really bad for a while but I am so happy she's back to normal now. she, like your girl, was still eating and drinking and standing, etc after the injury. pain management is important and keeping it clean. they are resilient little things. thank you for taking care of your girl.

Thank you. Any idea how to bandage it? Not sure what to use.

Hi! You're doing great, clean twice a day and keep slathered in plain antibiotic ointment. If you can, get some aqua mox on tsc, dog bites can get infected. To help with shock, keep her in a semi dark place for next 24 hours, offer electrolyte water, raw yolk, tuna, grubs, whatever she wants. Important to keep her fed so she keeps up her strength.

@Ccort

Side note, don't bother wrapping it, she'll take it off.

Ty. How much Aquamox to give her? Also, should I cover the area ? If so, with what?

Also, is this right? Says it's for fish?

metacam is pain relief, OP said she gave her that
Yes, but OP is not a vet and the dosage needs to be adequate for the pain. The chicken also has a huge gaping wound with dog germs in it. That requires very thorough cleaning, antibiotic injections, and stitches. Probably a drain tube also.

The hen may recover without vet care but that shouldn’t be the standard that we advise.

I can't get her to a vet right now though because it's 8pm. Honestly would be lucky to find one to see her within two days. I'm just trying, if I can, to help her right now. Not opposed to the vet at all.

I’m sorry that this happened to your hen. I am still of the opinion that she should be euthanized since she can’t get to the vet quickly. I’m sorry.
