I was wondered that as well. Could there be another small wound on or near the leg that got infected? Although I would have expected then antibiotics to help prevent that.Could it be part of the dog attack injury?
It seems like it's less swollen and warm to the touch but now she has diarrhea again.Wow she's young for arthritis to have set in!
I would give her the aspirin and see how she does with that and if you don't see an improvement you can try one of the metacams.
It's definitely traumatic watching them suffer. Do you think she is fevered? The aspirin should help with that.
It wasn't like that until recently...so I'm not sure. But I hold her all the time and while her leg can get sore from the arthritis, it doesn't typically swell to that extent or look like that.Could it be part of the dog attack injury?
There are some small scabby areas on her leg but I really won't think they were there before it swelled up. It looks like maybe it was hurting so she started pecking at it instead. I could be wrong though.I was wondered that as well. Could there be another small wound on or near the leg that got infected? Although I would have expected then antibiotics to help prevent that.

How do you if they have a fever?
The vet, a while back, told me she has arthritis in her leg. I was definitely surprised considering her age.
Will do on the thermometer!Rectal thermometer....make sure it is in your chicken first aid kit and only used on chickens.
Normal is about 105-107° F.
Did he x-ray to diagnose the arthritis?
Is that swelling in the upper leg only or the whole leg?
Dadgum it! She was finally free of diarrhea.
I got home late so haven't seen her much today. She's currently eating though and did NOT have diarrhea today. Yay on that! She is so bored inside but not sure how to set up enrichment for her. It's hard to tell if she's not feeling well/hurting or just really bored because she isn't moving around much. How did she do today?
The crunchy sound in a joint can certainly be an indicator of arthritis.
