Dog Attack! How Long Will Chickens Stay Hidden?

I live on 5 acres with more 5 acres plots all around me and my hens got attacked by some kind of predator a day ago. I seen three sets of feathers but no blood or body parts. I've looked everywhere calling for them and even shaking there treat bag non stop. Found 2 and still have 9 missing. I hope others have made it and are just in hiding.
Anybody have any other thoughts on what I could try to find them?

have you found any of your hens? I sure hope so, I've been thinking of you and hoping, :)

Been going out twice a day looking but still no luck. The 2 I had found are starting to move around a bit so I'm hoping the others will also. But still no luck.
I just feel bad cause the 2 I found are from different groups that mill around so no doubt it's even hard in the coop.

Yes, chickens do mourn for their lost flock mates. So sad. They still could wander back one or two at a time over the next week. Keep your chin up for now and let us know if anyone comes home.

Don't give up! My pet Cornish X went into hiding for five days when a hawk was stalking her! I kept looking around her pen and the coop until one day she poked her head out from underneath the wood shed to let me know that she was stuck! If they are in hiding, they always seem to hide nearby or they come back.

Yea it's day five and still no sign of the girls. Guess I need to look into maybe doing a chicken tractor or possibly even getting a rooster for protecting the hens. Just hate that this happened to em.
I will look at replacing them in the spring I suppose.

We had a dog get after our chickens today. One chicken was injured and two were missing. The two that had disappeared were the best of friends and had always been together. We found one after about an hour of searching, perfectly fine and hiding. Since then about another hour or two has gone by with still no signs of the missing chicken.

There are no feathers--no blood. We think she's probably hiding in the yard somewhere. I know that chickens go into a trance-like state when they hide and can stay like that for a while, and I'm not sure whether or not to give up hope.

Does anyone know how long a chicken will stay hidden?

Did you take care of the problem dog?

Not yet but I have bought a trail camera to see what's coming around and also going to fence in a larger part of the yard so it will help correct that problem
