One of our chickens was just attacked by two dogs. Luckily, we got out there in time and she's okay, drinking and eating with her friends. We've got the dogs and they seem nice, just not to chickens. However I'm worried because she lost a lot of feathers and it's starting to get cold around here. We aren't sure how to help her when it starts getting super cold. Also, no open wounds thank goodness.

Thank you. I was worried that she wouldn't grow them back until her molt, and she's not even 6 months yet (about 5 1/2)

If a feather is plucked out (all the way gone, pulled out by the roots) it can regrow, even if it's not time for a molt.

If the end of a feather is cut off or bitten off, but the base of the feather is still in the skin, it will probably stay that way until the next molt.

If the bird has bare spots, the feathers were probably pulled out, so they should regrow.

Thank you, luckily none were bitten, most were torn off, so she should be growing them back soon.

It'd probably be a good idea to have some Blu coat or something for feather picking on hand. If she has bald spots, whenever those feathers start growing back in, oftentimes (although not always) flockmates will pluck and eat the feathers as they break through the skin. You'll want to camouflage the areas until the feathers have grown in enough to not be so tempting. Hopefully this won't be an issue but it's good to know ahead of time
