Hi all. Herd frantic clucking.. one of my hens went into our backyard with our monster of a dog.. luckily she was able to get in a safe spot but my dog had her in his mouth. I think her had her wing and she escaped, because half her wing feathers are scattered in my yard.
She immediately laid an egg, and has been eating and drinking. No blood, no puncture wounds.
I am curious what to do for her wing, it appears to be maybe dislocated or broken.. pics attached.
Also, all of my flock is panting we are in a heat wave down in Oklahoma. They get frozen snacks, have a splash area, it’s just hot y’all.
Any advice appreciated.

It may just be sprained or strained and very sore. If you did not already, I would check her over really well to make sure there are no wounds/punctures hiding in feathers anywhere. If you find any, flush them out well and apply a plain triple antibiotic ointment. I would see how she is tomorrow. If she's still having trouble holding the wing up you can use a figure 8 bandage to help support the wing in a better position. I will attach a splinting manual that shows how to do it. I would only wrap it if it really seems necessary.

Thank you for replying!
She was a very lucky girl, no blood or puncture wounds.
Her wing is being held a little higher than it was yesterday. I believe you are right with the sprain, she is already maneuvering with it better today. The wind caught it a few times yesterday and she was struggling to pull it in, today she is stronger with it.
Will update as healing progresses.

So we are now 4 days in.
As of today, she’s able to hold her wing completely pressed to her body. It doesn’t match the other side (maybe an inch off), she has made drastic improvements!
Probably will not update again, she seems to be doing super.

That's good news. Your dog must have a soft mouth since there are no puncture wounds. Sounds like it didn't intend to kill, just wanted to play, perhaps. Good think you were there to hear the commotion. This episode has a happy ending.
