The worst thing happened today. The neibours dog got to my Wyandotte chickens. One got it bad. The dog bit her butt taking off all her tail feathers. There was also bite marks but no real bleeding. I treated her quickly with blue spray and went looking for the others to access the damage. They are all okay except the one. I have put them all in the coop together. They were all so afraid. I'll take a better look at her tomorrow. I should probably have put her by herself but couldn't bare to separate her from the others when she was so afraid. I'll post again when I've looked at her tommorrow.

I'm so sorry that happened to you!

You probably did exactly right keeping them together, just keep an eye for pecking of course. Had you separated her, she might have not received a warm welcome back! I sure hope she is ok and you can have a chat with the neighbor. Keep us posted.

Day after attack.
Went to check on my girls today. They're still pretty shock up. Decided to not let them out in the run it being a little bit rainy:( today. Thought it was best to keep them warm and dry. Got a good look at the hen that got it worst. It looks dry and almost forming a scab already. There are feathers covering the sore so the others don't see it to easily. Hopefully there won't be and picking at it from the others. Sprayed it again with blue spray. Posting a picture of the sore. Any thoughts to further care? Is it okay to have them together?

As long as the others aren't picking on her sore spot and she is getting around ok, I'd leave them together...just watch them carefully.

Have you said anything to the dog's owner? They need to be aware of the damage their pet caused. Is there anything you can do to your set-up to make it safer from future attacks?

I have spoken to the dogs owner and they are very sorry. Being a dog owner myself I know they can get lose sometimes. Though my dog loves our girls and would never dream of doing them any harm. She just stood and didn't know what to do. I let them out of the run to free range when I'm at home. I heard their cries and ran out as fast as I could. The small dog had cournered the hen in the run. They usually run in there when they feel unsafe. Had she gone it the coop it would have been okay.
How long does it take for a wound to heel and how often should I check the sore? Is the blue spray enough of a treatment?

I would put some neosporine on the wound and check it every day. I don't know that the blue spray will prevent infection but it will cover up the red that attracts pecking.

I let the chicken out in the run for some fresh air and they started eating the feathers that had been ripper off the hen that was attacked. Anyone know why? Thought that was strange. There are plenty of other feathers laying around but I've never seen them eat those.
