The chick is sitting up and has its eyes open! I placed some scrambled egg in the sink I have it in and it ate a tiny bit, has taken some water with nutridrench in it and is overall more alert and active. I'm going to keep it on the heat pad for a while longer then put it back in the dog kennel. But for going from thought it was dead to this, I'm stoked! Definitely would recommend the pad over a heat lamp for a stressed chicken.

One of my favorite pullets survived a dog massacre once, and acted very similar, in shock, unresponsive, panting etc. After a few hours she began holding herself upright like your chick. She didn't move for about two days. When she started moving she had a severe limp although no broken bones. About 4 days after she was good as new. Sending well wishes for a complete recovery for yours. My pullet never grew any more after the incident (4 months old) and stayed a tiny bird (she was an Easter egger) but began laying at the same time as the rest of the flock and laid enormous eggs for her size.

Oh dear, I hope she gets bigger! Silkies are already so small, they're 2/3 the size of my barred rocks that are a week younger, but it's encouraging to hear that yours more or less recuperated from the stress. Which brings me to this morning's news, I checked on the chick thus morning and it was up, alert, and moving around. It had eaten and drank just a very little, but had pooped during the night and everything looks good and normal. She's on "bed rest" til it warms up this morning to see if she's still feeling feisty before I let her go back with the other chicks.

She's alive and doing great! I let her go back out in the coop where life's just better for a chicken and kept an eye out all day, guess she just tried to worry herself to death and needed a day in the spa.
