In the Brooder
My naughty 8 month old pup caught one of my 5 week old chicks and while I didn’t see it happen I was told said pup had the chick in her mouth. Upon inspection of Poutine (the chick) I found a very small abrasion on her foot. She is now limping/hopping with the foot curled tightly under her and putting very little weight on that leg however, she is eating and drinking fine and is able to access both resources with minimal struggle. She’s also managed to get on the roost I have mounted about a foot off the floor in the brooder crate.
So what do I do now? Do I leave her be and hope the foot heals on it’s own? Being that this is my very first flock I don’t know how well chickens heal and if/when I should provide support.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
