Dog attack.

My handsome boy passed away. I looked at him before I buried him and he was worse than I thought. His back was torn down to the bone all the way from his neck to his tail feathers. I just didn’t see it until I raised his feathers. He will be missed on our little farm. Thanks everyone for the help. The dog is no longer here at our farm also. She has been sent away.

Losses happen, & it's not fun.

A tip for next time if you have another injured bird is give a thorough inspection, & clip the feathers away from the wound(s).

In one day? It happened yesterday evening. Does it happen that fast.

Yes, it can happen that fast, I agree with the other replies about the Penicillin, but Amoxicillin is better. We prescribe Amox to people for dog bites. You can also remove the feathers around the wound and wash out the wound with a 50/50 mix iodine and saline solution and squirt Neosporin ointment into the wound. This along with the systemic antibiotics should help. With all this, a vet visit would be best.

Yes I should of looked closer but I didn’t wanna put him through more pain than he was already in.
