Dog Attacked Chicken

I’m thinking of your little one! Coukd be very sore. I’d be concerned with internal injuries, too, being hunched over like that. So he/she is still drinking and eating? How about pooping? Breathing normally? I wish you and the little sweetie all the best!

Thank you so much for the well wishes! He's drinking water but only when I bring it to his face. I have been able to get him to eat a little but again, only when I hand feed him. He's not really doing much on his own.

He did go poo last night - white and watery. Not really much since then but I'm not sure if that is because of the fact that he's not eating / drinking much.

It can take up to a week before you start to see improvements after an attack. It can take 3-6 weeks before they start to be more normal again. I did have one chicken that ended up blind after an attack and wouldn't eat and drink after a week. We finally figure that one out. Generally I wait 3 days before worrying about them drinking, and up to a week before I worry about them eating. If it eats and drinks when you offer stuff than it's a good sign, keep it up.

So Nugget has gone poo a couple of times but, upon further inspection, his vent is protruding a bit and a lot of the excrement was getting stuck there. I cleaned it as best I could with water. Would this be treated the same as a prolapsed vent from egg laying?

Apologies for the graphic photo but I figured 1. it would help you guys get a better idea of what I'm seeing and 2. if you have chickens, it's probably nothing you haven't seen already.

Would this be considered a prolapsed vent?
