dog attacks my chickens for the 3rd time

I was wondering, did you file a civil claim or a criminal complaint? I don't know the laws in your area, but in Texas you can file what is called 'dog at large' charges and they are handled as a criminal case. Every time you see the dog running loose, you can call law enforcement and report it as 'dog at large'. You don't have to catch the dog or even see it on your own property, just running loose. When the owner is summoned to court he is fined and for every time you report his dog running loose, he gets another charge and has to go to court again. Each time the fines increase. Usually people that don't care about the safety of their dog or your animals will at least care about the amount of money in their wallet. You might check into it...

A litle different here seems like no matter how many times it happens they just send a letter to keep dog under control

Yike's.I dunno about your local laws.But a few dog's have been put down around here due to Uncaring Numerous times warned owner's.And 2 were put down by a local neighbor that work's for the game and fishery commision due to 2 of the same rampant agressive dog's that were allowed to run loose killing livestock and attacking other household pet's.I had a pack of 4 hound's kill 2 of my LONG time kittie's last year when had shortly moved a mile down road for 3 month's.Luckily I caught them on my 3rd one but she took week's to recoup.I wasn't sure about the dog's but they were caught in action that time.Couldn't find owner's either gaaaaaa.I kept gun loaded and ready and they would not have even been crawling off that hill if I had caught them back again.
