What diet was the dog on before the prescription diet?

I had the same problem with one of my female dobes. I started feeding her a higher quality food, Eagle Pack holistic salmon/sardine/oatmeal, and stopped filling her water bowl from the spigot outside and she has never had them again. I think the unsoftened water outside had too many minerals in it for her to process. The Eagle Pack is a little costly, about $42 for a 38# bag, but worth it to me to not have to take her to the vet all the time. I too give her the Costco chicken jerky treats and we do not have any problems at all and it's been at least 3 years. Best of luck!
