Dog Breed?

Labradoodles are good dogs! I had one myself but had to give him away because she was was always too alert and barking at other dogs and animals! She was very protective and shame I had to give her away! She was too big for my small backyard! She was a really good girl! It's part poodle part lab. So the hair shouldn't bother you. She was very alert and protective!

all of the "doodle" breeds are all over the place as far as size, activity level, health, temperament and coat type.
First, no breeder of solid health tested lines of either breed would EVER sell to someone planning to breed doodles so they aren't going to be starting with a solid background of healthy bloodlines. And poodles and labs are both rife with health issues.

Second, since there is no solid background of healthy dogs that fit the standard, you aren't starting off with dogs that will produce a particular size - most "backyard bred" dogs in the US are grossly oversized. Add in the fact that some people use standard poodles, others mini and still others toy and you increase the issue.

Third, very very few doodles are products of longterm "doodle to doodle" breedings. They are all F1 crosses so there is no way of knowing if they will inherit more poodle or more lab characteristics.

All of the other potential issues with "doodles" go back to the fact that it's highly unlikely that the breeder is going to be starting with healthy stock.

Finally, and most relevant even if you find the golden egg of doodle breeders who is actually responsible, labs and poodles are both breeds designed as retrievers. That drive to bring back the bird is going to be strong in them no matter what, making them more likely to have a problem being around birds. Also, both are very highly energetic dogs, especially as puppies, and need a LOT of training to set a solid foundation

Thanks for all the advice! Right now I am looking into a Portuguese Water Dog. Hopefully allergies won't be an issue. I will probably just look into a really good training system but I've been told that these dogs have a low prey drive. Does anyone or someone you know have experience with this breed?
