Ok, there are several points here I'd like to make:
1. P*ta is not interested in animal welfare (they have the highest! euthanasia rate of any shelter in the country!)
http://www.newsweek.com/id/134549
Their interest is in doing away with companion animals.
2. No animal should be given shots and neutered at the same time!! That is according to the insert with all the vaccines which states only healthy animals may be vaccinated!
3. There are not many young (up to 10 week old) pups euthanised. Most of the ones that are are the less desirable pit bull puppies and their mixes. I have nothing against pits, so I'm not trying to offend any breed lovers here, just stating facts. The point I'm making isn't that all animals should be neutered when there a homes for nearly all cute puppies, instead I would suggest that those who dump the cute little puppy cos it grew up should be dealt with big time! If those folk were held accountable there wouldn't be hundreds of juvenile dogs in the shelters in the first place. I'm also pretty that in many cases these are the same people that are 'adopting' another cute 8 week old puppy.
Animal welfare is a huge social issue in this country, it's not simply about removing parts from animals that God/nature put on the critter for a very good reasons and not just procreation. That's another long rant I will spare you
Surfice to say Europe, England and Australasia don't have the pet overpopulation problems seen here in the US - and they aren't as picky about having the dogs neutered. I find that very interesting.
