dog breeding

Oh yeah, that's where we get our Rabies shots for $10 but the spay/neuter clinics are always over-full you have to get an appointment waaaay in advance. Believe me, I'm watching like a hawk for the next sign-up date to be announced, but even if I sign up as soon as it's posted, they only do it for one day and they can only accept so many pets, so I still might not get in (again)

I can not find a local animal shelter withen 70 miles of here that has any deals. I would have to go all the way to Chicago to find one, and I would have to sign up way in advance.

Luckily I can afford my dogs care. I just think if there was more help on the fixing cost more people would be responsible about getting this done.

FYI, I do not believe, however, that all animals should be spayed. Just ones that people have no need or intention of breeding.

any of you want a dog? they come up to my steps constantly. some of the common strays here is a looking full breed very affectionate rottie about 2 years in age. (when her family moved they dumped her) a small german shepard looking dog who's very shy but willing, and its all white. also a all white pitt girl and older lab boy both always looking to play and i think the pitts carrying the labs puppies. can't guarantee there still around animal control comes every week and puts the down on every monday or thursday if a rescue doesn't take them by then. also have several cats more then i can sit and tell you about. we did take one in it's our siberian husky, number 2, rime. he chased our car down on our way home from the vet. our car was up to 25mph when we noticed him along the highway. he wasn't, is now, neutered and he is still under weight. only problem he had was his pink eye and he got that from playing with our pup who stactched it!

Ok, there are several points here I'd like to make:

1. P*ta is not interested in animal welfare (they have the highest! euthanasia rate of any shelter in the country!) http://www.newsweek.com/id/134549
Their
interest is in doing away with companion animals.

2. No animal should be given shots and neutered at the same time!! That is according to the insert with all the vaccines which states only healthy animals may be vaccinated!

3. There are not many young (up to 10 week old) pups euthanised. Most of the ones that are are the less desirable pit bull puppies and their mixes. I have nothing against pits, so I'm not trying to offend any breed lovers here, just stating facts. The point I'm making isn't that all animals should be neutered when there a homes for nearly all cute puppies, instead I would suggest that those who dump the cute little puppy cos it grew up should be dealt with big time! If those folk were held accountable there wouldn't be hundreds of juvenile dogs in the shelters in the first place. I'm also pretty that in many cases these are the same people that are 'adopting' another cute 8 week old puppy.

Animal welfare is a huge social issue in this country, it's not simply about removing parts from animals that God/nature put on the critter for a very good reasons and not just procreation. That's another long rant I will spare you

Surfice to say Europe, England and Australasia don't have the pet overpopulation problems seen here in the US - and they aren't as picky about having the dogs neutered. I find that very interesting.
