O.k. I do breed dog and believe you should not breed but every other heat at the most. You should also not let puppies go till they are 8 wks ( if you are shipping they have to be 8 wks anyway). The reason allot of people don't get from pure breed rescues is simple - they want as much money as a breeder for the dog and you don't now the dogs background at all. I believe more people would spay there dogs if the service were free - ( $175 to spay a dog is unreal). I offer to give people that buy from me some money back when they show proof of spay. I think the only dogs that should be breed on purpose are AKC up to standard and without health defects.

There's no reason to make me shell out $$ for office visit, unnecessary shots, and THEN pay out the wazoooo.

My cats are fixed because their vet doesn't require all that bull. Unfortunately he's "cats only"

There is a shop in our local mall that sells all of these mixed breeds for a small fortune, and they have "papers" for them, and immidate financing for anyone willing to spend $1200 on a "GoldenPoo", etc. What a huge rip off, yet they are always selling dogs whenever I pass them!

I do believe in the reputable breedeing (not dog farms), of AKC recognized breeds. After all different breeds were developed for different purposes, temperments, etc.

My Pembroke Welsh Corgi came from a good breeder, at 8 weeks old, and I had him nuetered as I have no intention of breeding. But this is my favorite breed of dog and I adore him, and his temperment is perfect for our family. I also have a Chihuahua terrier mutt that a neighbor was badly abusing and when I complained about the cruelty they gave me the dog. She too is nutered.

Bottom line is I believe there would be less unwanted animals if pet stores were not allowed to sell cats & dogs, and if there was more availabity for low cost spaying and neutering. In my area there is no way to get an animal fixed for less than the standard vetrinarian charge, appoximately $200.

I think another issue for the "designer dog" thing is that certain Hollywood quasi "celebrities" have made dogs an "accessory" no different than a watch or a hand bag. It irks me to no end to see people carrying around these little dogs in designer bags or pushing them in carriages like they are babies.

There was a lady who came into the retail shop i work at who had what looked like a maltese in a small carrying bag. First of all the dog looked ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE. Secondly the bag was so small the poor little thing couldn't move. I just wanted to throttle her!!

I have noticed that more and more retailers are putting up "No Dog" signs. I've gone into Blockbuster, Wal Mart, Target and even Lowe's and seen people with their little dogs wandering about. ARGH!!!!

Until the general public gets to the point to recognizing that animals are animals and not toys or baby dolls to be dressed up and shown off and then cast aside when they get bored with them, there will ALWAYS be an overpopulation problem.

I got 2 dogs done for $156 bucks,call your local animal shelter and ask for a low cost spay and nueter vet...
thats how I found my vet when I was helping out at our local shelter

I had my Boxer mix done not too long ago. She was about 45 pounds at the time and it was $135 for the surgery and then she needed her rabies and they gave me an extra sedative (cause she is SUPER hyper) and a couple other things. I think the bill was about $200 total. I'd have to dig out the recipe to be sure, but that was for a spay. Oh, and she was in heat at the time.

It was a reasonable charge. I called my old vet back in KY to verify. When I had my 100 lb rotti done 8 years ago it was about $175. She was also in heat so that added some cost. And prices have gone up some since then.

I would definately check with local shelter/humane society about low cost. Even here, they have a clinic that is specifically low cost. All they do is rabies and spay/neuter.

Any reputable breeder would not offer designer dogs or in my opinion CKC registered dogs because allot of times all they are crossbreeds that look like a particular breed. If you want a pure breed dog get one that is AKC from a reputable breeder and get it fixed when its old enough. Otherwise go to a shelter and save a puppy.

well I am looking for a poodle mix , simply because I am allergic to fur dogs but not hair dogs and I love the temperment of a lab
