for a well-bred, health tested, temperament proven lab, $500 would be a steal. Closer to $1000 is more the typical price range, with many being well above that. especially if you live in a more expensive area.

That's why I prefer my working line GSDs. A showline dog, especially a West German bloodline, is around $3000 at 8 weeks old. And the price goes up from there. Makes my Czech boys look like a real steal at $1200!

Sorry, I just spend a lot of time on various dog rescue groups, am involved with networking breed specific (GSD) rescues and basically all my free time is dogs. You wouldn't believe the number of people who decide to make those fantasies a reality. And simply on the basis of "I have a girl dog. Your dog is a boy. Puppies are cute."

I totally understand. If I had the time and the space here, (as well as the financial means), I would foster rescue dogs myself. I'm a huge advocate for rescues, especially Pitties, because they get such a bad wrap, and they can be the most friendly, social and loveable dogs. But let's be real here, I love ALL dogs...lol, I want them all...my husband is constantly having to bring me back to earth. It's crazy how much purebred dogs cost, I know a lot of money, energy and time are put into them by the good breeders, so I understand, but they are out of my league financially. My boxer was a purebred, and I got her for only $300 because we were/are friends. Now I try to stick to rescue dogs. I'm only allowed 1 dog at a time because we wouldn't financially be able to do more...especially if there was a medical emergency, and we want to be responsible pet owners, but if I could I'd probably have at least 4 dogs.

I once had a dachshund that would bite at the mail man's heels everytime he came around! I'm not sure I would ever want that breed again! She even got out of our car once and ran in the grocery store! That was a laugh!
