Hi all,

My ducklings are doing well and I really want them to go outside. It has been well over 90 here (AZ) and I'm sure they would do fine with shade outside. I was wondering if I could use a plastic dog crate (my collies fit in it so it is really big) as a temp. home for them until hubby gets the coop built. I have a exer. pen for around the the outside so they could free range safely out of the crate then get shut in the crate at night. So as long as I keep some bedding on the bottom of the crate any issues with keeping them in the crate in the shade outside during the day?

Thanks

My concern is predators.. what is this pen like? and are there open spots/wire on this crate? I admit before we got our coop built.. my ducks lived in the horse trailer!

You have to think about all aspects of entry, animals wanting a duck dinner are quite resourceful and will gain access through wire, gaps, dig.. etc..
