I also used the ear wash concoction listed above. It worked well on my Golden. (He lived to 17!)

I also agree with the post about allergies and yeast. Have you tried changing your dog's diet? Most of the standard off-the-shelf dog foods are corn based. Try one that that is rice or even-better, meat based.

I used Drs.' Foster & Smith products fro a couple of years and saw the 'infections' dramatically decrease. Recently, my local Costco stated selling their version of this food which contains the same ingedients at a much better price.

I have heard washing/rinsing the ears with plain vinegar help maintain the correct ph balance in the ears and prevents yeast infections

I'm sure the alcohol would burn if you put it in an ear with scratches. But it will solve the problem within a couple of days. Some people mix it half and half with vinegar to help avoid some of the sting. Think about a female with a yeast infection using vinegar to try to allow the acid to subdue the yeast down below.
Peroxide will not kill yeast. If the ears are extremely sore, you might try Monostat. Our vet uses that for any ringworm fungus on dog skin. It might help with the ear fungus? I just know the vet I worked for uses alcohol to clean the ears and prevent yeast from growing again. It is recurrent, so if a dog is prone to yeast overgrowth it will come back.

I keep a bottle of half vinegar and half green menthol rubbing alcohol and squirt it into my dogs' ears about once a month just before I bath them. After the bath, I swab their ears out. My chihuahuas, even the long haired, have never had ear infections, and my cocker spaniel has not had one since I started using this solution. My vet says my dogs' ears on a bad day are better than most people's dogs' ears on their best day. It's a cheap and easy preventative measure.

the vinegar and alchohol mix works well, and make sure to clean them out reguarly for preventative measures. good luck, bad ears in dogs can be a nuisance and a continual problem depending on what is causing the ear issues and if it's not remedied-yikes.

Oddly enough, the vinegar alcohol mix works for swimmers ear too.

I clean my dogs ears with diluted Tea Tree Oil, never had any problems with their ears since.

You Can get Tea Tree Oil at any health food store or Trader Joe's . It's good stuff with lots of uses for me, my house and my pets. I get mine at Trader Joe's

I dilute mine and use olive oil to dilute.

Does anyone know what is in Nolvasan Otic? That is the cleansing solution the vet gave me to wash out his ears.
